imgThe_Last_Samurai2.jpg

During this week I saw a lot of movies, but the one I liked the most was a 2003 movie called "The Last Samurai." This movie is about a captain called Nathan Algren, an American veteran of the civil war, who is hired by the American who want contracts with the Emperor of Japan. Nathan was sent to Japan to train some Japanese warriors. Later he lead a feud, with some poorly trained Japanese warriors, versus the Samurais. They lost the battle, but he didn't surrender, and he alone was still killing a lot of Samurais. The leader Katsumoto saw his ability, and he order not to kill him. They took him to were they lived and had him as a guest. The family of a samurai he had killed took care of him. Nathan learned to speak Japanese, and learned the arts of the Samurai. The family who took care of him ended up really wanting him. Later the Emperor called the Samurais and he wanted to execute them. Nathan ended up joining the Samurais at war. At the end there was a war. The Samurai expected to win with swords versus guns. They had a plan and started good, but then they were all killed, except for one. Nathan survived and he went to the emperor and gave him Katsumoto's sword. He accepted it and Nathan ended telling the story of how Katsumoto lived, and that traditions should't get lost in modern Japan.

I liked this movie becasue there is war, which I enjoyed a lot and you are exited to see who is going to win. In this movie you can see samurais fighting, which is something great because you see them in action instead of just studying them, you learn from them throughout the movie. You see the way they live in a little village and keep the culture although there are only a few samurais still alive. It is a great movie!

During this week I finished reading a book called "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens" by Sean Covey. This is a really good book and I liked everything about it. It helps you be a better person, and how to go through the teenage years. It helps you take advantage of your time, being proactive, showing to you how to communicate with people, avoiding things that aren't good for you, etc. They give plenty of examples from teens who have undergone different situations.

I recommend this book to every teen and almost every person, but it is made specially for teens. This can really make you change some ways in which you act, and is fun to read thing other teen have written, which are things that may have occurred to you. It was a gift from my dad, which I like very much, and it really starts to make you think different, and trying to be a better person.

During this week I saw a movie called "Toy Story 3." This is another great adventure of Woody and Buzz Lightyear, but this time in 3D. The movie was very good and did a good job following the previous movies. In this movie Andy was going to university, and moving out of the house, so the toys were thinking that Andy didn't want them anymore, so they were thinking of going from Andy's house to other place where there are many kids that may want them. It is a good movie, specially because it is in 3D. I like it because when I was small I saw "Toy Story," and "Toy Story 2." I wanted to see the sequel, and how it ends. I recommend this very fun movie, which you can see in 3D.

During this week I rented a movie called "Green Zone." This movie takes place in Iraq. In this great movie Matt Damon is a U.S officer that discovers they are getting bad intel as they are looking for weapons of Mass Destruction. He wants to see what is going on. He tries to find where the intel comes from and wants to find out why are they getting this bad intel. The movie is based on something real, that is the Iraq war, in which the U.S. took control of Iraq. This movie takes place after the death of Saddam Hussein.

I reccomend this movie specially for those who find war interesting, because this movie has many war-like scenarios.. I like this movie because there is a lot of action and U.S soldiers fighting. I like to see how this soldiers enter to take place or how they treat people. Matt Damon makes a great job in this movie.

During this week I went to Miami, Florida. I did a lot of practice in english because a lot of people there speak english. I spoke english with people at restaurants, malls, in my hotel, and almost every I went. A lot of people in Miami speak spanish, but a lot speak english too. I went to the movie theater and saw a movie called "Eclipse" in english. Eclipse was a very good movie and you can now see more of the wolf clan, and how they work together with the vampires to protect Bella. The 4th of July is the independence of the United Statesso I saw how people celebrated; there was a concert and a fireworks show in a park near my hotel. I got out of my hotel and saw everything. It was really great and I heard American stating what a great fireworks show it was. It was a very fun week, I practiced my english and it helped me to communicate with people.

During this week I saw a movie called "From Paris with Love." This movie takes place in Paris. James Reese is the personal aide to the U.S ambassador in France, but he has a side job, and works for the CIA. Reese's first mission is to bring his partner Charlie Wax from the airport. When his partner arrives, which has had more experience than him in the CIA, they start to fight against terrorist.

This is a great movie full of action. I like it because the action is continually happening, and also some things happen unexpectedly, like when Reese finds out that her girlfriend is really just spying on him or thing Charlie Wax does, like start shooting unexpectedly. John Travolta (Charlie Wax) makes this a great movie and fun that I recommend everyone to see.

amulet-of-samarkand.jpg
In this week I read a lot and finished a great book called "The Amulet of Samarkand" by Jonathan Stroud. This book is the first book of "The Bartimaeus Trilogy." This book is about an eleven year old boy called Nathaniel. The story takes place on London. Nathaniel is a magician's apprentice, and is learning the arts of magic. He encounters an ambitious magician called Simon Lovelace that humiliates him in public, so he seeks revenge and summons Bartimaeus to assist him. Bartimaeus is a djinni, which is like a middle ranking type of demon. Nathaniel steals the Amulet of Samarkand to Lovelace, which is a great treasure and then a great story starts with magical espionage, murder, and rebellion. The plan of Lovelace is to overthrow the Prime Minister.

This book was great and I recommend it if you like story of magic, adventure, and battles. I like this book because it is very interesting and makes you keep on wanting to read it. Also because you learn terms of magic and how people act in a society which is mixed with commoners and magicians.

The_Golem's_Eye.jpg
During this week I started reading the second book from "The Bartimaeus Trilogy" called " The Golem's Eye." In this book Nathaniel is already fourteen and is working for the government. He is the Assistant to the Head of Internal Affairs. He is now trying to disintegrate the Resistance. The Resistance is a group of commoners (non-magicians) that cause problems, because they steal magic artifacts and use them to make struggles. It is interesting to see how commoners start to revel in a society in which the magicians rule. The Resistance makes minor struggles, but another more dangerous enemy comes. In the past they defeated Prague, but they think they are starting to revolt again. In this book Nathaniel is going to the city of Prague to research golems ,and he is going to summon Bartimaeus for the second time. So far the book has been great, just like the first one.

I like it because it is the next second part to the sequel in which now Nathaniel is bit older and now needs to solve bigger problems that are very exiting. I like to see how Nathaniel now doesn't only take care of his life now, but also of his job, which everyone expects he is going to fail. I also like how Nathaniel practically embarks in a new life because he now lives in a new house with a new master, which is like his mom. In the previous book his master had died. He also works which is something new, and a great part of his life as a magician.
